This pedal board setup provides enough basic sounds needed. It uses a home-made bipolar powersupply to power each unit. This provides for a very fast set up and tear down. Plug in guitar to pedal board, pedal board to amp, power cords, done! See the following signal diagram:

However, a different setup is used in the studio. Both systems can provide similar sounds. The studio rack setup just allows for cleaner digital effects and stereo spread. The studio rack is too heavy, too many cords and too expensive to lug around to the average gig. Here's the signal diagram of the studio setup:
